Marine ICT TechnicianJOB DESCRIPTION:

Bridging a variety of skills, SEA-Tech's Marine ICT Technicians have learnt the art of troubleshooting, hardware, software, telecommunications and electrics. Using hand tools and power tools, computers, their duties also include assembling, wiring, installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining marine electrical and electronic  equipment. Working sometime away from home our technicians must be able to travel around Ireland and also abroad. Preferred skills include proficient level of understanding in at least one foreign language if possible.


Excellent troubleshooter, SEA-Tech’s Marine ICT Technician is able to diagnose malfunctioning systems or components, using test equipment, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Operating both ashore and afloat, the ICT Technician must be comfortable working on boats and ships, working at heights, and be willing to work in inclement weather conditions. This role will suit recently qualified or experienced ICT Technicians or Electricians willing to add marine experience to their skill set.

REQUIREMENTS


The successful candidate duties will include:

  1.  Use a variety of tools and equipment from computers to power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, MEWP, etc
  2. Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, electronic equipment, and radio operated equipment.
  3. Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures.
  4. Fasten small metal or plastic boxes, electrical switches or outlets on ships or within harbour facilities.
  5. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
  6. Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  7. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  8. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate some knowledge of:

  1. If possible, one foreign european language or the willingness to learn some.
  2. Good computer skills,and demonstrate understanding of at least two operating systems (Mac OS-X and Linux or PC and Mac etc… but Linux is definitly a strong plus)
  3. Some basics of CAD Software such as Autocad, Conceptdraw or QCAD would be appreciated
  4. Demonstrate understanding of computer networking
  5. Electrics and electronics.

The successful candidate must have / be able to:

  1. FULL EU Driving License, clear of any penalty points.
